Dating back to 1846, Ulysse Nardin founded his eponymous timepiece company, inspired by the movement of the ocean and quest for continuous innovation. Drawing upon the energy and constant flow of the sea, Ulysses Nardin timepieces are designed with a nautical spirit and practical purpose. At the time of the brand’s emergence, one of a sea captain most prized possessions was in fact his pocket watch. It comes as no surprise that this very such timepiece, the Marine Chronometer by Ulysse Nardin, became coveted by naval officers and captains around the world. Their marine deck chronometer was used extensively by over 50 navies and international shipping companies given the precision and efficiency of the instrument. As the company evolved over the years, the focus has transitioned more towards wrist watches which uphold the same nautical spirit and technical expertise that Ulysse Nardin was founded upon.
Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur
With such bold and meaningful history, Ulysse Nardin continues to innovate and excel in the art of watchmaking. Their latest release comes as an evolution of the classic Marine Chronometer, the Marine Torpilleur. This new generation timepiece is made for the modern era with a lighter and thinner build that it’s counter-part. Although with a modern update, it maintains the class, craftsmanship and functionality that is so widely sought-after in Ulysse Nardin timepieces. A caliber UN-118 in-house designed movement is at the heart of this watch, with a patented inertial balance wheel. The Marine Torpilleur has a 60 hour power reserve with it’s indicator at 12 o’clock. In addition, the timepiece functions with small direct seconds and a round date window at 6 o’clock. To ensure the watch can withstand the sea, it is water-resistant to 50m.
The aesthetic of the Marine Torpilleur is similar to the Marine Chronometer utilizing Ulysses’ classic roman numeral markers and a distinctly UN dial. Availability for this particular model is in 18k rose gold or stainless steel, with a striking fluted bezel. It’s dial comes in white for the gold version, with the ooption of white or blue for the Stainless steel model. At 42mm diameter, the watch subtly commands a presence.
