Porsche has unveiled the 2025 Taycan Turbo S, setting a new benchmark as the most potent and quickest production car ever manufactured by the esteemed automaker. Having been in production since 2019, the Taycan EV receives a comprehensive overhaul, boasting enhanced power, advanced technology, upgraded electric components, and unparalleled performance.
While the entire Taycan lineup receives updates, our focus lies on the range-topping model – the Taycan Turbo S. Though subtle, the design revisions pale in comparison to the significant enhancements in hardware and performance. Chief among these is the remarkable increase in power, with the new Turbo S generating a staggering 938 horsepower when utilizing launch control, a substantial leap from the previous model’s 750 hp. Porsche’s intent to narrow the power gap between the Taycan and the Tesla Model S Plaid is evident.
With its formidable 938hp output, the 2025 Taycan Turbo S emerges as Porsche’s most powerful production vehicle, surpassing the 918 Spyder’s 887hp. Moreover, boasting a claimed 0-60 time of 2.3 seconds, this flagship EV secures the title of the swiftest Porsche road car to date. The surge in power is attributed to new motors, which, despite maintaining the same dimensions as their predecessors, deliver significantly improved performance, according to Porsche.
While retaining the two-speed transmission for enhanced efficiency at higher speeds, the new rear motor stands out for being both lighter and more potent than before. Power has been augmented by up to 107 hp across various models, while the motor itself sheds approximately 20 pounds in weight compared to its predecessor.
Porsche has also enhanced the battery technology across the Taycan range. The 2025 Turbo S features a new Performance battery pack boasting a capacity of 105kWh, with a usable capacity of 98.6kWh. Not only does it offer greater capacity, but it is also lighter, weighing 19 pounds less than its predecessor. With a host of weight-saving measures implemented, the new Turbo S sheds 33 pounds compared to its forerunner.
In addition to the upgraded battery pack, Porsche has made significant strides in improving the Taycan’s range, addressing a previous weakness. While EPA figures are currently unavailable, the Turbo S’s WLTP range has surged from 290 miles to an impressive 391 miles. The Turbo S Cross Turismo variant leads the range in terms of pricing, commanding $213,695, a $14,695 increase from its predecessor. Deliveries of the 2025 Taycan are slated to commence later this summer in the United States.
