A maritime start-up in Japan has unveiled its plans for Dogen City, a floating city that aims to adapt to climate change and offer state-of-the-art healthcare services. Spanning 390 acres, this innovative city will house 40,000 individuals, including both residents and visitors. The circular design is designed to withstand natural disasters and will feature public housing, medical research centers, food production facilities, and even spacecraft launch sites. The goal of Dogen City is to create a self-contained community that promotes good health and prevents diseases.
N-Ark, the company behind Dogen City, emphasizes the need for a collaborative approach among policy, business, and technology to establish a new maritime economy. The city’s design consists of three distinct layers or “industries.” The first layer is a livable and self-sustaining maritime village that focuses on providing essential infrastructure and fostering mental and physical well-being.
The unique ring-shaped design of Dogen City not only provides protection against tsunamis but also incorporates an undersea data center that benefits from natural cooling by the ocean, resulting in reduced energy consumption. Additionally, inspired by SpaceX, the city’s final layer will serve as a launch and landing site for rockets.
Residents of Dogen City will have the opportunity to engage in daily telemedicine consultations, which employ sensors, blood samples, and genome analysis to assess their health. Furthermore, they will have access to cutting-edge robotic surgery and pharmaceutical research, enhancing the level of medical care available in the city.
This City will implement advanced cultivation technology to grow functional ingredients and crops on-site, utilizing seawater as a nutrient source. This innovative approach to food production will yield approximately 7,000 tons of food each year while generating an impressive 22,265,000 kW of power. N-Ark emphasizes the integration of medicine, food, and housing, considering them as interconnected elements within the project.
