They are presented through the introduction of three Phantom Extended models and one Cullinan model, marking the festivities of the Lunar New Year.
To honor the Lunar New Year, Rolls-Royce has disclosed an exclusive tribute to Chinese traditions by revealing its Year of the Dragon Bespoke commissions. This set includes three Phantom Extended models and one Cullinan model. They all incorporate the dragon’s symbolic qualities, which stand for strength, wealth, and victory.
Assembled at the esteemed Goodwood residence of the brand, these automobiles embody a fusion of time-honored customs and contemporary elements, tailored to captivate an international clientele. A group of skilled artisans known as the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective has reinterpreted the dragon motif to offer a unique and contemporary take on this well-known emblem while still honoring its historical roots.
The artistic focal point of each vehicle is a hand-crafted dragon on the front passenger panels, brought to life through an intricate process spanning more than two weeks. The artwork employs a stratified technique to produce a three-dimensional impact, achieved by applying numerous shades of red, each meticulously lacquered to perfection.
Internal intricacies further emphasize the theme, featuring dynamic dragon embroidery on the headrests, consisting of 5,449 stitches and demanding over 20 hours to complete. The goal of the design is to emphasize motion and fluidity, as well as the artisans’ unwavering devotion to accuracy and precision.
A pioneering venture in the annals of Rolls-Royce, the Bespoke Starlight Headliner introduces the dragon motif through 677 fiber-optic “stars,” a design necessitating more than 20 hours of meticulous placement. This feature, particularly in the model destined for Shanghai, incorporates red “stars,” underscoring the significance of the color in Chinese culture. External designs are equally distinctive, with exclusive color schemes and a subtle dragon motif interwoven into the coachline, symbolizing the East and the sun’s ascendancy.
Sharing his reflections on these automotive marvels, Jonathan Simms, Head of Bespoke at Rolls-Royce, conveyed, “These Bespoke creations, inspired by the Year of the Dragon in 2024, celebrate the widespread influence of Chinese culture, transcending national boundaries.
Consequently, these magnificent motor cars are destined for clients based across three continents. These creations are both a potent expression of our admiration for Chinese culture and a contemporary, minimalist proclamation aligning with prevailing trends among global luxury consumers.”
