Lamborghini’s next-generation supercar, set to replace the Huracán, will feature a hybrid-assisted V-8 engine. Despite the reduction in cylinder count, this new powerplant promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience.
Top Gear reports that the forthcoming supercar, codenamed “634,” will be powered by an all-new V-8 hybrid engine. Although it’s smaller than the outgoing V-10, it surpasses its predecessor in performance, with the new engine offering more power and excitement.
This is the first substantial update from Lamborghini regarding the 634. Full details about the engine are still under wraps, but Lamborghini has revealed that it will have an astonishing redline of 10,000 rpm. This high-revving capability should reassure enthusiasts concerned about the loss of two cylinders. Additionally, the V-8 will feature a flat-plane crank design, a 4.0-liter displacement, and twin turbochargers, producing an impressive 789 horsepower and 538 ft-lbs of torque from the outset. This makes it one of the most powerful V-8 engines available, easily surpassing the Huracán’s V-10, which maxed out at 631 hp and 417 ft-lbs of torque.
The V-8’s output is only part of the power equation for Lamborghini’s new supercar. The hybrid system, akin to the one used in last year’s Revuelto, will further boost performance. This system is expected to include three electric motors, though their exact configuration remains undisclosed. It’s anticipated that one motor will be positioned between the V-8 engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The hybrid setup is projected to add an extra 146 horsepower and 221 ft-lbs of torque, ensuring that Lamborghini’s next model won’t lack in power.
Lamborghini plans to unveil the Huracán’s successor before the end of the year. When it debuts, the new model will join the Revuelto and the recently introduced Urus SE, rounding out Lamborghini’s all-hybrid lineup.
