With 650 horsepower, the lightweight, road-ready Adamastor Furia is quite powerful.
Adamastor hopes that Portugal will be recognized for more than just Cristiano Ronaldo, Port wine, and beautiful weather.
According to Top Gear, the auto startup has just introduced the Furia, its debut vehicle, which it claims is the nation’s first supercar. The company believes that its audacious design and strong powertrain from Ford will enable it to take on some of the more well-known European brands.
The arrival of the Furia was long overdue. Although the company was founded in 2010, it didn’t decide to switch its emphasis from producing race cars to road vehicles until 2018. After five years and one abandoned sports vehicle, the brand’s first production model is now prepared for its big debut.
Adamastor’s first car has a striking design that combines elements of a spaceship and a Le Mans racer. The bubble cockpit, bulbous fenders, and sizable rear wing of the carbon-fiber body are its most striking elements, all of which indicate that this is a car designed to effortlessly slice through the air. Its aerodynamic design, which is reminiscent of the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Pagani Huayra, combined with a venturi effect floor allows it to generate nearly 2,200 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. The manufacturer claims that the interior can be customized, although no pictures of it have been released.
Not only does the Furia appear the part. A Ford Performance V-6 3.5-liter engine is housed in the engine bay. Even though several of the supercar’s competitors may have larger mills, this one nevertheless generates an amazing 650 horsepower and 421 ft lbs of twist. That’s a lot for any car, much less one that weighs only 2,450 pounds because of its carbon-fiber chassis. According to Adamastor, the Furia can accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in around 3.5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of eighty-six miles per hour with all that power propelling it forward and its aerodynamic features keeping it stuck to the pavement. While not very groundbreaking, both figures are respectable.
Adamastor intends to construct 60 Furias, at an estimated cost of €1.6 million (approximately $1.7 million) apiece. Can consumers afford to pay that much for a supercar made by an unknown startup? The brand, announcing that it is targeting luxury brands such as Rimac and Koenigsegg, had best hope so.
