Famous Japanese streetwear brand Bape, founded by the multi-talented Nigo, has once again teamed up with Adidas to introduce a fresh take on the iconic Stan Smith silhouette. Released on February 10, these sneakers break away from the traditional white color scheme in favor of Bape’s distinctive camouflage pattern. The striking “ABC Camo” print adorns the shoes, accentuated by white laces, gold “Stan Smith” lettering, and collaborative branding on the tongue. Completing the revamped look, the trainers boast a gold “30” embellishment on the laces.
Crafted with a blend of a sturdy rubber outsole, a supple upper, textile lining, and the hallmark perforated three stripes synonymous with Adidas, these shoes offer both durability and style. Additionally, the package includes two sets of laces for versatile styling, camo-printed sock liners, and a specially designed co-branded box.
In an eco-conscious move, the footwear incorporates at least 20 percent recycled materials in its construction. Adidas is committed to minimizing its carbon footprint by embracing sustainable practices such as rethinking, redesigning, repairing, and reusing materials wherever possible.
The collaboration between Adidas and Bape spans over two decades, beginning with the debut of the Super Ape Star sneaker in 2003. Since then, the partnership has yielded numerous limited-edition releases, including the Superstar “B-Side,” the ABC Camo-adorned Originals NMD_R1 trainer, and the Consortium Superstar 80s sneakers in collaboration with UNDFTD. Last November, the two brands reunited to introduce two new iterations of the Stan Smith model in celebration of Bape’s 30th anniversary, featuring contrasting black and white colorways and signature collaborative elements.
The Stan Smith silhouette, an iconic staple with timeless appeal, was originally introduced in 1965 under the name “Adidas Robert Haillet,” paying homage to the renowned French tennis player. It was later renamed after American tennis icon Stan Smith in 1978. With its clean, minimalist design, the shoe serves as a canvas for creative expression, allowing designers to infuse their own unique touches, such as the distinctive camo motif.
The third and final release of the limited-edition Bape Stan Smith anniversary collection will be available for purchase on the Adidas Confirmed app, select retailers, and Bape’s official website starting February 10, with each pair priced at $160.
