Belmond is capitalizing on this trend by welcoming renowned chef André Chiang as the culinary curator for its Eastern & Oriental Express, marking the train’s grand return to service.
Chef Chiang, celebrated for his culinary achievements at the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Raw, is set to transform the dining experience on board. He will infuse the menu with his unique culinary philosophy, incorporating Asian influences and local ingredients to create dishes that pay tribute to the diverse culinary traditions encountered along the train’s route. Guests can anticipate indulging in standout dishes such as a laksa-inspired bouillabaisse, black-bone chicken consommé, and a chocolate ganache accented with jungle spices.
Additionally, Chiang is collaborating with Belmond’s partners to design exclusive menus for special journeys, such as the Veuve Clicquot Solaire Journey. This particular voyage offers a blend of exquisite champagnes paired with Chiang’s culinary creations over a three-night journey through Malaysia.
The Eastern & Oriental Express itself has been meticulously refurbished, showcasing luxurious new interiors that reflect Belmond’s signature elegance. The train features eight sleeper carriages, two dining cars, an open-air observation deck, and the Piano Bar, providing live music each night for an enchanting ambiance.
Travelers have the choice among three types of cabins: Pullman, State, and Presidential, each offering a distinct design inspired by the scenic vistas along the train’s route. The Presidential Suites boast opulent gold embroidery, the State cabins capture the essence of Penang’s coastal scenery with blue and green tones, and the Pullman cabins draw inspiration from Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant cityscape.
Designed as a serene retreat, each cabin offers a versatile layout that transitions from a relaxing daytime lounge to a comfortable bedroom at night, ensuring guests enjoy a luxurious and immersive travel experience.
