Dyson Introduces Futuristic Air-purifying Headphones

If you live somewhere with a great deal of air pollution, or if you are just eager to prepare for a dystopia where you have to shut your ears and mouth to the outside world, the “Dyson Zone” could be for you. Dyson has introduced a pair of air-purifying headphones with a face-protecting air purifier engineered to tackle the dual challenges of city noise and air pollution. Dyson has now officially provided the full specifications, alongside a price of $949.

The Dyson Zone air-purifying headphones contain compressors in each ear cup that draw air through dual-layer filters and project two streams of purified air to the wearer’s nose and mouth, channeled through the non-contact detachable visor. The electrostatic filters capture 99% of particle pollution as small as 0.1 microns2 and the dual-layer design features potassium-enriched carbon to capture acidic gasses like nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and ozone, which are most associated with city pollution.

The Dyson Zone supports Bluetooth 5.0 and features a 3.5mm audio jack and USB-C port for charging. Dyson claims that the headphones can be used up to 50 hours before the battery dies with the audio-only function, but only a modest four hours when it’s also powering the air purification visor. The headphones are wireless and feature a 2,600mAh lithium-ion battery, which can be fully charged within three hours.

On the audio front, the Zone air purifier headphones are capable of up to 38 decibels of noise cancellation and the full-spectrum audio goes beyond the audible to reproduce frequencies from 6Hz-21kHz, ensuring every note or word is heard. Lastly, you can use the MyDyson companion app to choose between three audio equalization modes dubbed Dyson EQ, Bass Boost and Neutral.

The Dyson Zone will first go on sale in January 2023 for the Chinese market and will be released in March for the US, UK, Hong Kong SAR, and Singapore. The innovative device will initially be available for preorder by appointment only in the US before being made available at Dyson.com and at physical Dyson Demo stores.
