United Airlines has opened a 54,000-square-foot United Club at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, which the airline says is the largest airline-branded lounge in the Americas. The new facility is on the mezzanine level of Terminal B North and accommodates up to 800 passengers at a time. The interior fit-out alone cost $58.9 million, according to a Texas regulatory filing, and the lounge forms the centerpiece of United’s $2.6 billion transformation of Terminal B.

The lounge’s design draws from Houston’s cultural and natural identity, blending references to the city’s bayous, skyline, and aerospace heritage. The space includes artwork from Texas-based artists, with photography contributed by a United employee from San Antonio. Panoramic airfield views are available throughout, and a 1,350-square-foot outdoor terrace provides an uncommon amenity for a major airport lounge. Two full-service bars, two buffet stations, 11 private phone rooms, and high-speed WiFi are spread across the vast footprint, with hundreds of charging outlets for travelers’ devices.

United CEO Scott Kirby has said he challenged the airline to build clubs larger than it believed necessary, aiming to address lounge crowding and improve the overall experience for travelers.

The new club is part of a redeveloped Terminal B North Concourse, which now spans 765,000 square feet and includes 22 gates designed for modern narrowbody aircraft. Every United flight departing from the North Concourse uses a jet bridge. The broader terminal overhaul brings total Terminal B gate capacity to 48. Over 105,000 square feet of the terminal is dedicated to retail and concessions, with Houston favorites such as B&B Butchers & Restaurant, Rosie Cannonball, Blood Bros. BBQ, and Blue Bell Creameries among the offerings. The concourse also includes a children’s play area, a sensory room, and a $16.8 million public art program featuring ten major installations inspired by Houston’s history and environment.

Access to the new United Club is available to qualifying memberships, eligible credit cards, and selected premium tickets, though one-time passes remain subject to capacity limits. The Houston lounge network now includes seven locations, among them the Polaris Lounge and United Club Fly, a grab-and-go space that began operating in Terminal B South in February 2025. That location uses self-scan entry and lets travelers pick up fresh food, snacks, and coffee to take with them to the gate.

United schedules over 500 flights each day from Houston, with routes to 65 international cities. Of these, 57 are in Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline’s 2026 domestic schedule offers nearly 17 million annual seats, its highest capacity at Houston in more than a decade. United says the Terminal B transformation will support 40% more passengers on peak travel dates compared to 2023.

Houston’s new lounge joins other recent and planned United expansions, including new spaces in Denver and San Francisco, and a larger facility proposed for Washington Dulles. A recent story in the magazine explored airport lounges that offer the highest level of privacy.

At present, United’s Houston lounge is the largest in the Americas, built to address crowding and to serve the airline’s growing number of travelers.
