$11.5 Million 1920s Spanish Colonial for Sale in Los Feliz

Melissa Cobb

After a relatively short four-year period of ownership, Melissa Cobb has made the decision to put her stunning residence in the highly sought-after Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles on the market. Marci Kays and Jonathan Mogharrabi of Carolwood Estates are handling the listing, describing the Spanish-style mansion as a true representation of Hollywood’s golden era.

This seasoned entertainment industry executive, best known for her work on the Kung Fu Panda franchise, has listed the multi-level property for just under $11.5 million, a notable increase from the approximately $6.4 million she paid for it in the fall of 2019. Originally commissioned by the affluent entrepreneur William C. Hay and designed by architect Charles C. Kyson in the early 1920s, this historic residence even graced the pages of Architectural Digest in a feature article from 1925. Under Cobb’s ownership, the property underwent an extensive renovation, including improvements to the surrounding grounds.

Situated on a secure, gated hillside lot that spans over half an acre, this stucco and terra-cotta-roofed mansion boasts five bedrooms and five bathrooms within its nearly 5,500 square feet of living space. The interiors are beautifully appointed, featuring a combination of hardwood and marble floors, hand-painted oak doors, and stained-glass windows throughout.

A picturesque walkway leads through a lushly landscaped yard to an ornate wooden front door, which opens into an entry foyer showcasing a stunning staircase crowned by a barrel-vaulted ceiling. Among the standout features are a spacious living room with a grand fireplace beneath a hand-painted coffered ceiling, a sunken den with a wet bar, a formal dining room adorned with wood paneling imported from England and an ornamental tracery ceiling, which opens to a second-level veranda. The gourmet kitchen is equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, an inviting island for dining, and a charming breakfast nook. The residence also includes a family room, library, wine cellar, home offices, staff accommodations, and an oversized primary bedroom featuring a fireplace, an elevated closet, and a spa-inspired bathroom with dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a glass-encased shower.

Outside, the property is beautifully landscaped with fruit trees, terraces, and gravel pathways leading to secluded gathering spots. It also features a sunken fire-pit lounge and a private pool surrounded by a lush lawn centered around a period fountain. Additionally, there’s a street-level garage that can accommodate three vehicles, all conveniently located just minutes away from the Griffith Observatory and Greek Theatre.

Cobb joined Netflix in 2017 as the head of kids and family content and played a pivotal role in establishing the company’s animation studio. In 2022, following the acquisition of Animal Logic, the studio behind The Lego Movie, Cobb stepped down from her role as vice president of animation film and currently serves as a producer for Netflix.
