Poker and casino games are an intense form of entertainment for those who enjoy friendly competition with their friends. Of course, even the most glamorous Hollywood A-listers aren’t immune to the allure and excitement that comes with high-stakes poker. For this reason, celebrity poker tournaments are especially common.
For example, we’ve previously written about Enclave & Key’s launch of the Celebrity Poker Tour, a series of eight high-stakes poker tournaments featuring renowned celebrities, content creators, and pro-athletes such as Bryce Hall, Tana Mangeau, Bill Pulte, Austin Ekeler, and more. Previously, the Enclave Celebrity Poker Invitational in August 2023 garnered over 150,000 livestream viewers and generated massive social media buzz.
Aside from gathering the world’s most famous people in a room to bet on poker hands, celebrity poker tournaments are also a glimpse into the glamorous celebrity culture and how they interact with each other beyond the red carpet and social media. In this post, we’ll look at some of the factors that make celebrity poker tournaments so appealing to many:
Philanthropic Goals
Most of the time, celebrity poker tournaments are hosted for specific causes and purposes. For example, in 2020, actor Ben Affleck worked with Feeding America to organize an online poker game to raise money for the domestic hunger-relief organization. The actor posted onto his social media inviting people to join the live stream on Twitch. Many fellow actors and Hollywood celebrities confirmed they were attending, including Sarah Silverman who reposted Affleck’s original post.
Upon announcing his attendance, Affleck stated the organization had already raised $1 million. In partnership with leading online poker provider America’s Card Room, the event was officially called “All In For Feeding America.” Poker pros in attendance included Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth, as well as ambassador to America’s Card Room, Ebony Kenney, who ended up winning the event after beating out A-listers in attendance like Hellmuth, Matt Damon, and director Kevin Smith.
Glitz and Glam
Beyond philanthropic causes, however, celebrity poker tournaments are so attractive to the public because of the idea of Hollywood actors gathered in luxury locations to play poker away from regular people. After all, the vibe of an all-exclusive celebrity poker tournament is definitely not the same as a celebrity sighting at a regular casino.

For example, Cartier‘s private poker night at Chateau Marmont brought together some of the hottest Hollywood household names for a night of poker and friendly bets. The poker night was held in honor of Timothée Chalamet’s Best Actor Oscar nomination, and saw a star-studded guest list consisting of girlfriend Kylie Jenner, sports agent Rich Paul, rapper Kid Cudi, and notorious actor-slash-poker-enthusiast Tobey Maguire, and more. Held on the sixth floor of the LA hotel’s suite, the event featured three full poker tables, after which Chalamet confirmed comedian Nathan Fielder is, surprisingly, a “poker beast.”
A Peek At Celebrity Poker Skills
Finally, beyond the glitz and glam of celebrity poker tournaments, celebrity poker tournaments are a great glimpse into the secret world of poker pros within Hollywood. While many A-listers like Timothée Chalamet or Kevin Hart enjoy the game as a casual pastime and to get together with other famous people, other celebrity poker players have approached the game more professionally.
Comedian, actress, and voice actress Jennifer Tilly, who recently joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is one such famous poker shark hailing from Hollywood. On top of being an Oscar-nominated actress, Tilly’s lifetime poker earnings have gone over $1 million. She also became the first celebrity to win a WSOP bracelet in 2005. After twenty years of playing high-stakes poker, Jennifer Tilly uses her winnings to fund her luxury lifestyle and love for fashion.
