After three years of anticipation since the partnership announcement, Fear of God and Adidas have unveiled their collaborative venture – Fear of God Athletics, abbreviated as Athletics. This synergy, a fusion of founder Jerry Lorenzo’s love for basketball and tailoring, manifests in a collection designed to redefine sportswear.
The Athletics collaboration, as per the brand’s release, marks the completion of Fear of God’s brand architecture, established in 2013. Integrating elements from both Fear of God and ESSENTIALS tiers, the collection introduces a third pillar that includes oversized drill tops and track pants, reminiscent of NBA Tear Away pants but reimagined with a minimalist futuristic touch inspired by sci-fi aesthetics seen in films like Dune.
Captured through the lens of artist Nadav Kander, the campaign subtly infuses biblical undertones. The imagery evokes biblical scenes, with models reaching skyward in a pose reminiscent of Jesus Christ, and a film showcasing models walking on water toward three jagged mountains resembling The Three Stripes.
While specific clothing details remain undisclosed, the debut line of Athletics comprises classic staples such as zip-ups, sleeveless tops, jackets, and an array of performance crewnecks and accessories. This unveiling follows the earlier tease of the Fear of God x Adidas Basketball sneaker spotted on Lorenzo in May.
Fear of God Athletics was set to launch on December 3, available online at Fear of God and Adidas’ CONFIRMED, as well as select Adidas DTC stores from December 6. Leading up to the release, Fear of God was hosting “The Athletics Atmosphere” event in Los Angeles from November 30 to December 3, showcasing the collection from 11 am to 6 pm PT at 751 S Mission Rd, Los Angeles, California
