IWC Schaffhausen and Mercedes-AMG have unveiled the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “AMG” Edition. The latter celebrates the partnership between the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer and the German automobile manufacturer since 2004. The first IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph in titanium is powered by an IWC manufacture movement, caliber 69385, and equipped with a carbon fiber dial.
This long-standing collaboration between the IWC Schaffhausen Manufacture and the sports and high-performance car brand Mercedes-AMG is based on many common values, including the pursuit of technical perfection and impeccable quality. Both companies were created by visionary minds with bold ideas. In 1868, Florentine Ariosto Jones combined artisanal know-how with innovative industrial processes to redefine watchmaking in Switzerland. In 1967 in Grossaspach, Germany, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher founded AMG to give life to an avant-garde concept: to integrate cutting-edge technologies from the world of motor racing into production vehicles intended for the road.
“IWC Schaffhausen and Mercedes-AMG share a common passion for performance and design, as well as a quest for technical excellence down to the smallest detail. During the 17 years of their partnership, IWC and AMG have experienced exhilarating moments in motorsport, and created many memories for their customers. Today we are proud to permanently integrate Mercedes-AMG into our Pilot’s Watch collection, starting with the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph AMG Edition “, says Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.
The partnership between Mercedes-AMG and IWC brings together all the essential elements for a successful and lasting collaboration. It’s very rare to meet a company and people who share so many interests and values. Our commitment to exceptional know-how and our quest for a product experience based on emotion have united us since 2004 – and the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” once again illustrates our solid partnership ”, confides Philipp Schiemer, CEO of Mercedes-AMG.
Designed in materials from automotive engineering, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” (ref. IW377903) is the first Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 43 mm powered by the manufacture caliber IWC 69385. It is also the first Pilot’s Watch Chronograph with a titanium case, an extremely light and scratch-resistant metal. The grade 5 titanium finish gives the watch a matte gray appearance inspired by the Gris Selenite Magno, an AMG signature paintwork. The dial reveals a precise weave of carbon fibers, a material directly derived from AMG aero components. Known for their lightness and rigidity, these parts are the result of a complex manufacturing process at high temperatures and pressures. The raw material – continuous carbon fibers – is processed on weaving machines to obtain these textile structures and giving the final product that characteristic appearance of woven carbon. The black carbon dial provides a perfect contrast to the silver chronograph auxiliary counters – a nod to motorsport instruments.
This high-performance all-terrain watch is powered by the IWC 69385 manufacture caliber, a robust and precise chronograph movement that measures times up to 12 hours. The chronograph function is controlled by a column wheel. The Mercedes-AMG logo is imprinted on the smoked sapphire crystal caseback. The timepiece is mounted on a black embossed calfskin strap adorned with contrasting stitching and secured by a folding clasp.
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “AMG” Edition will be available for pre-order from May 21 online at IWC.com, in IWC boutiques and at authorized retailers.
