Napa’s Finest and Hardest to Find – 2012 Hillside Select

Shafer Vineyards has been producing celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon from its rough-and-tumble Hillside Estate Vineyards in Napa Valley since 1978. The latest release of 2012 Hillside Select ($265 per bottle) more than lives up to this wine’s storied pedigree. The redoubtable critic Robert Parker calls it “voluptuous and opulent … once again, a fabulous effort.”

Considered one of Napa’s crème de la crème, the wine is hard to acquire if you’re not on Shafer’s Hillside Select mailing list but it is available in limited quantities at top restaurants and fine wine shops if you keep your eyes open. Also, the winery holds onto a small allocation as a thank-you for those who visit the winery – giving you the best possible excuse for a Napa Valley getaway!
