In a world filled with dazzling timepieces, intricate designs, and an endless variety of watches, it’s rare to encounter a collaboration that genuinely stands out, especially one that resonates with the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll.
Hublot and Depeche Mode have unveiled their latest creation, the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode, a homage to the iconic band’s recent album, “Memento Mori,” and its accompanying global tour. The watch features a distinctive skull and hourglass motif on a matte black backdrop, symbolizing the fleeting nature of time, life’s transient beauty, and our significant existence on this planet. Beyond its symbolic appeal, it serves as an edgy accessory for those with a rock-inspired style.
Adhering to the Big Bang collection’s distinctive style, the watch boasts a tonneau-shaped case with an all-black theme, adorned with a skull emblem. The dial’s center is filled with tiny black ceramic beads, and pyramid-shaped studs form the indices around the dial’s perimeter. These elements are complemented by a black ceramic bezel and the “DM” initials at the 6 o’clock position, representing Depeche Mode.
This collaboration marks another chapter in the ongoing partnership between Hublot and Depeche Mode, which began 14 years ago to support various charitable causes. With each Depeche Mode tour, their partnership has grown stronger, continuing to support meaningful causes with each new project.
A portion of the proceeds from the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode watch will contribute to a significant cause, aligning with the band’s intention to highlight the fragility of human existence through their “Memento Mori” message. Martin Gore of Depeche Mode expressed the importance of their renewed collaboration with Hublot in supporting these ideals.
The partnership also focuses on raising funds and awareness for the Conservation Collective, dedicated to environmental conservation efforts, including combating plastic pollution.
Depeche Mode’s music has always delved into deeper existential themes beyond the typical pop song, offering a reflection on life’s deeper meanings. The watch itself is a marvel of craftsmanship, featuring a 42 mm sand-blasted, polished black ceramic case and a self-winding HUB1710_SD movement with a 50-hour power reserve. It comes with two straps: one made of recycled materials and Velcro, and another crafted from black rubber with a titanium clasp.
Adding to its exclusivity, each of the 100 limited-edition watches is presented in a special box, which includes a unique 10-inch vinyl single of Depeche Mode’s “Wagging Tongue,” available only with this watch, and produced sustainably using green energy and recycled PVC.
