Richard Mille Collaborates With Smiley On A $1.2 Million Emoji Watch

Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille certainly knows how to cause a stir in the world of horology with their revolutionary watch designs, but the newest addition to their collection is guaranteed to have collectors head over heels. Introducing the new RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon “Smiley”, a happy-face collaboration with the licensing company Smiley.

The golden Smiley with its radiant face in combination with an array of miniature sculptures takes possession of the RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon Smiley’s movement. The new in-house automatic Caliber CRMT7 movement is mostly covered by two fluffy clouds and is, unlike most skeletonized watches, not the center of attention. Among the fluffy clouds, there is: A sun, a cactus, a flamingo, a cocktail with a little umbrella, a pineapple and two rainbows. All these tiny sculptures brighten up this timepiece and emphasize the symbolic values of the smiley.

All the tiny sculptures are three-dimensional and hand-crafted down to the finest detail.

They are positioned onto a baseplate, and fixed using several attachments. The tiny figurines are all placed at an angle to make sure that you can see as much surface area as possible and also to accentuate the three-dimensional look. To top it all off Richard Mille also added the smiley emoji on the crown.

The bezel and caseback are in ATZ white ceramic, which is known for its high scratch resistance and unchanging color. The caseband is made of 18K red gold.

Only 50 pieces of The RM 88 Tourbillon Automatic Smiley will be made, each priced at a whopping $1.2 million.
