The Peninsula London Opens Its Doors Near Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace

In the heart of London, on the cusp of Hyde Park and a stone’s throw away from Buckingham Palace, The Peninsula London, one of the city’s most eagerly anticipated hotels in the last decade, has finally opened its doors.

Situated at the prestigious address of 1 Grosvenor Place, this ultra-luxurious establishment embarked on its journey in 2017. After six years and an investment exceeding $1 billion, The Peninsula London now stands as the 12th jewel in the crown of this 95-year-old ultra-luxury brand.

Nestled near Knightsbridge, Kensington Gardens, and other iconic London landmarks, the hotel pays homage to the finest of British craftsmanship and artistry while staying true to its Asian heritage.

Collaborating with Hopkins Architects, The Peninsula ensured that its building seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment. The creative contributions of partners such as fashion designer Jenny Packham, perfumer Timothy Han, and over 40 artists from The Royal Drawing School create a quintessentially British ambiance, evoking the atmosphere of a bright and airy manor house.

At the heart of the hotel is a spacious off-street courtyard, adorned with climbing jasmine, wisteria vines, and two 120-year-old Japanese maples. This bright and expansive hotel offers guests a modern luxury experience in the heart of London.

Accommodations

The Peninsula London boasts 190 guest rooms and suites, in addition to 25 luxury residences. Designed by Peter Marino, this marks the first UK hotel bearing The Peninsula’s signature Asian elegance, fused seamlessly with its new London setting.

Bespoke touches like mahogany-paneled walk-in dressing rooms and bathrooms featuring honey onyx stoneware create the ambiance of a chic private residence. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide breathtaking panoramic views of Wellington Arch and beyond.

In December, the hotel will unveil its four signature suites, three of which feature private balconies and terraces. The pinnacle of luxury, The Peninsula Suite, offers a terrace with sweeping views over Hyde Park, a cinema, a gym, a dedicated VIP elevator, and the option to connect to a separate entertaining suite.

For those seeking even more space, an additional seven bedrooms can be added, allowing you to create your own private hotel within a hotel, spanning almost 14,000 sq ft.

Dining

The Peninsula London boasts six distinct restaurants, bars, and lounges, offering culinary delights to suit every palate.

The Lobby, an airy restaurant beneath triple-height, intricately molded ceilings, adorned with hand-painted de Gournay landscape murals, offers the traditional Peninsula afternoon tea experience. It also serves globally-inspired cuisine, often accompanied by live music.

For more casual dining, The Peninsula Boutique and Cafe offers salads, sandwiches, and sweets throughout the day.

Come evening, guests can indulge in Canton Blue, the hotel’s innovative Chinese restaurant. Designed by Henry Leung of CAP Atelier, this restaurant celebrates the spice-trade connection between Asian and British cultures. Here, you can savor Cornish blue lobster, hand-dived scallops, and braised whole abalone in an intimate, low-lit setting.

Opening in early October, the hotel’s signature rooftop restaurant, Brooklands, overseen by two Michelin-star chef Claude Bosi, will offer modern British fine dining with panoramic views extending from St Paul’s Cathedral to Battersea Power Station.

The restaurant’s design pays homage to Brooklands’ rich history as an airfield and historic car race track turned museum. It features a curated collection of artifacts, including the vintage Napier Railton, the 1933 race car that still holds Brooklands’ speed record.

Relaxation

In November 2023, the Peninsula Spa and Wellness Center will provide guests with serene moments of relaxation. Situated on the tranquil lower floor of the hotel, the spa will offer seven private rooms for massages, face and body treatments, and Ayurvedic aromatherapy rituals.

Separate sauna and steam rooms will be available for both men and women, and relaxation lounges with heated chaises will invite guests to unwind and rejuvenate.

The centerpiece of the Wellness Center is a 25-meter heated indoor swimming pool adorned with intricately-crafted mosaic artwork and illuminated by an overhead light panel that replicates the changing hues of natural sunlight. Equipped with underwater speakers and surrounded by poolside lounge chairs, it will offer all-day poolside dining and relaxation.

With a strong focus on guest well-being, the hotel will offer an array of wellness programs accessible through the dedicated Wellness Portal. These programs will include guided meditation, aromatherapy self-care rituals, and in-room fitness equipment.

For those eager to experience London’s newest luxury hotel, The Peninsula London is extending a special introductory offer until November 30, 2023, priced at £1,300, inclusive of breakfast, use of a house car, fully flexible check-in and check-out, and a host of exclusive benefits.
